Northern Senators Forum Backs New Gumel Emir, Hails Jigawa Government

The Northern Senators Forum has congratulated His Royal Highness, Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, PhD, on his ascension as the 17th Emir of Gumel Emirate in Jigawa State, expressing confidence in his capacity to provide effective leadership and promote development across the emirate.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the Forum also congratulated the Jigawa State Government and the people of the state on the emergence of the new traditional ruler.
The senators commiserated with the people of Gumel Emirate over the death of the late Emir, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, who reigned for 45 years. The Forum described his reign as one characterised by service, peace and dedication to the people.
The Northern Senators Forum commended the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, for his support and participation in activities surrounding the transition, while also praising Senator Babangida Hussaini, Walin Kazaure, for hosting and facilitating the delegation’s visit to Gumel on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The Forum also acknowledged the contributions of senators, traditional rulers, elected representatives and other prominent Nigerians who participated in the condolence visit and ceremonies welcoming the new Emir.
It expressed confidence in the new monarch, citing his academic achievements, professional experience and years of public service as qualities that would strengthen his capacity to lead the historic emirate.
According to the Forum, the Emir’s academic background, including a PhD in Computer and Communication Systems and expertise spanning mathematics, computing, engineering and cybersecurity, could help position the emirate for greater progress in education, youth development, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
The Northern Senators Forum assured the new Emir of its continued prayers, support and constructive engagement, while urging the people of Gumel Emirate to unite behind him and support efforts to promote peace, unity, development and prosperity.
The Forum prayed that Allah would grant the 17th Emir wisdom, good health, strength and divine guidance as he begins his reign.
